    Youth Love and Relationships

    Hosts Adriana Torres (Monte Del Sol Charter School) and Conor Cole (Santa Fe High School) lead us through the tumultuous journey of teen love, teen relationships, and the responsibilities of teen parenthood. Guests include Barry McIntosh of Young Fathers Santa Fe, and Jason Jarvis of the Las Cumbres Community Center. Teens Patrick Chavez, Dominic Medina, and Bethany Trujillo share their very personal stories ranging from young fatherhood to rape. And students from Monte Del Sol Charter School’s Radio Arts class share their views on love, sexuality, and relationships in an intimate and provocative panel discussion..

    INTERFAITH UNDERSTANDING

    Members of the Youth Media Project’s Global Broadcasting Team host this broadcast to share stories from their recent trip to cover the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Melbourne, Australia. Production Team alumnae Carmen Gallegos and Dolna Smithback present the radio stories they produced on assignment in Melbourne; guests Eliot Fisher and John Braman stop in for a discussion about the Parliament and interfaith issues; and Judy Goldberg, Founder/Director, joins the discussion, laying out her vision for the future of the Youth Media Project.

    SFIS Spoken Word Team International Journey

    Audio Revolution hosts Shawnelle Chavez and Gabe Rima welcome the Santa Fe Indian School’s Spoken Word team into the studio at KSFR, just back from their international trip sharing songs and poems in the Baltic states of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. Spoken Word Team guests Ariel Antone, Santana Shorty, Clara Natonabah, and Nolan Eskeets talk about their experiences and perform their work. The Santa Fe Indian School Spoken Word Team is a group of indigenous youth writers who are nationally recognized for their performances of poetry that incorporates Native languages and philosophies. The youth are coached by teacher and writer Tim McLaughlin.

    THE PERILS OF DRINKING AND MAKING CHOICES

    Youth Media Project’s Audio Revolution partners up with Santa Fe High School Student Wellness Action Team (SWAT) members Ariana Maestas, Chloe Wolff, Ashly Ramirez, and Renatta Portillo to shine a spotlight on DWI, youth drinking, and current New Mexico DWI legislation. Guests include SWAT team coordinator Phil Lucero and Senator Peter Wirth. Show hosts Chloe Wolff and Renatta Portillo take listeners through a cascade of teen and adult voices on topics such as youth and drinking, why youth choose NOT to drink, as well as a panel discussion with SWAT members and Senator Wirth about current DWI legislation for the 2010 State Legislature session; spearheaded by Senator Wirth. Audio Revolution ends the show with some serious AND playful narratives by Monte Del Sol Charter School’s Radio Arts students Ethan Parrot, Paul Van Sickle, Toby Winkler, and Lexie McAvinchey.

    Youth Media Project and Earth Care International’s Youth Allies Consumerism Show

    Santa Fe’s Earth Care International’s Youth Allies teams up with Youth Media Project to produce a compelling and emotional show about consumerism, sweat shops, DIY culture, and Black Friday. Hosts Sienna Sanchez (a Youth Allies and Youth Media Project member) and Conor Cole (Youth Media Project) take us on the journey which includes segments from Youth Allies members about Black Friday at Santa Fe’s local Walmart; consumption and waste at a local high school; a riveting testimonial by a Vietnamese woman imprisoned in a sweat shop (read by Youth Allies member Magaly Campos); DIY culture, and Taoism’s remedy for consumer culture. Contributors include Youth Allies members Magaly Campos, Marcos Campos, Sergio Gonzales, Amanda Martinez, and Camille Chambers. Youth Media Project contributors include Taylor Ramzel and host Conor Cole.

    Culture and Identity

    Culture and IdentityJoin students from the United World College near Las Vegas, New Mexico, as they explore cultural identities, cross-cultural clashes, and reflections about resolutions on Audio Revolution. Yu Mei Lay He from Chile, Ece Erdagoz from Turkey, Natalie Chan from Hong Kong and Yazan Deek from Palestine present their individual radio pieces and conduct discussions about cultural diversity and peace-making.

    What We Fear

    Listen to the recent Audio Revolution broadcast on October 21st. The show features a musing by Taylor Ramzelle about fall and the history of Halloween; a segment by Conor Cole entitled, Ignorance is Bliss; a recording by legendary storyteller, Joe Hayes, performing La Llorona; a radio drama created LIVE in the KSFR studio by seven of Joey Chavez’ Santa Fe High School Radio and Film students, called A Shanking in Paris, plus discussion with the performers about the play; a story about a diabetic boy and girl trying to survive the candies of October from PRX; a radio piece by Kassandra Rosales about facing fears, ending with a live panel discussion about our greatest fears and how to cope with them, assisted by therapist Ellen Lefkowitz. Each show on Audio Revolution concludes with a calendar of events for youth and featuring youth in northern New Mexico.
